Oxfordshire in 50 Objects
This is a new Exhibition in the The Oxfordshire Museum, Park Street, Woodstock, OX20 1SN
It starts on 28 May and ends on 11 September
Fifty fascinating objects, each telling a unique story, and brought together to celebrate Oxfordshire Museums Service’ half century. Chosen by community groups and members of the Service past and present, this exhibition showcases Oxfordshire’s rich heritage through the memories, experiences and interests of people from across the county.
‘Oxfordshire in 50 Objects’ features some fantastic items: look out for fabulous Anglo-Saxon jewellery, a clock gun, there is even part of a human spine with an arrow embedded in it! Explore the galleries through film, hands on activities for adults and children alike – truly something for the whole family!
The Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock is also having a party to mark the opening of the exhibition and celebrate its birthday! Thursday 9th June, 6-9pm
Live music for the Oxfordshire Jazz Collective, delicious food from Crepesomania, Bar provided by The Oxford Bar Company, displays of Oxfordshire over the past 50 years with the Oxfordshire History Centre and nostalgic memories with old Mini’s for the Abingdon owners Club. Free admission.

GREENWAY plaqueA member, David Gynes, says ‘Saw the M.I. below in Canterbury Cathedral and wondered if anyone in OFHS has an interest in the Greenway family. I guess if you do then you probably already know about this plaque, but worth a shot.’

Our strays co-ordinator, Jennifer Tombs, strays@ofhs.org.uk, is always keen to receive news of Oxfordshire strays (other than census entries).  Conversely, she will search her database for a requested surname.

If you came to Christopher Fance’s talk “Searching Beyond These Shores” on 4th August, or indeed if you were unable to make it to the actual meeting, you may be interested to know that there is now a list of the web sites Christopher discussed, on the OFHS web site at:

This includes a very comprehensive list of Australian and New Zealand sites that we hardly had time to touch on at the meeting. Definitely worth a visit if you are researching ancestors “down-under”.
