We are pleased to report that the society has recently taken stocks of the latest publication from Carol Richmond’s “Oxfordshire Black Sheep Publications” :-
Childhood Secrets : Volume 9 : Oxfordshire Children sent to Industrial Schools in Bristol, Bath and Leicestershire
This title will shortly become available from the society’s online bookstall. However, anyone who wants a copy and is keen to avoid those pesky postal charges can purchase it at this Saturday’s Open Day, as stocks will be on site !

I mentioned recently that our President, Hugh Kearsey, has been awarded an SoG Certificate of Recognition “for actively ensuring a wider availability of materials enabling others to pursue family history in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire”.

The presentation is to be made by Colin Chapman, Chairman of the Fellows of the SoG, during the OFHS Open Day at Woodstock this coming Saturday, 5 October, at 11:30am — with representatives of both Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire FHS present — do come if you can!
Details of the day are at http://www.ofhs.org.uk/OpenDay.html

With regard to Open Day itself, there are several stalls new to the event this year, and there will be plenty of advisors as well as experts on wills, DNA and Oxfordshire photographs.

Oxfordshire Family History Society is looking forward to Open Day on October 5th at Woodstock, and to welcoming both members and non-members.

10am – 4pm

Saturday 5th October 2013

The Marlborough School, Shipton Road, Woodstock OX20 1LP

Free admission – Free parking – Fully accessible

It should be an excellent day – there will be stands with family history societies, military & museum groups, vendors of family history software, photographic restorers, Oxfordshire History Centre (with their photographic expert), and lots more.

OFHS will have plenty of advisors happy to search our resources for visitors – and we’ll have specialists on hand on our wills and our DNA projects.

We’ll have our full range of parish register transcript & MI CDs on sale, and bring our bookstall.

It’s a fully level venue, with plenty of car parking, and there’ll be light refreshments on sale.

Details and a map are at http://www.ofhs.org.uk/OpenDay.html

Put the date in your diary!  Maybe arrange to meet a friend there!

There’ll be plenty of interest even if your interests aren’t in Oxfordshire.

Chairman, Oxfordshire FHS
