On Monday, 26 October 2015, Clive Hurst will talk to Oxfordshire FHS on:

The Cheney Archives – a record of a well-known Banbury printing firm over two centuries

Clive Hurst will be giving an overview, based on photographs, of the Cheney material which has in recent times been purchased by the Bodleian Library in Oxford. This was an important printing firm, based in Banbury, with origins in the 18th century. Clive Hurst will be following the history of the firm through to its closure at the end of the 20th century. The bulk of the archive comprises a fairly comprehensive series of albums containing samples of the firm’s jobbing printing from the second half of the 19th century.

We meet at the Exeter Hall, Oxford Road, Kidlington, OX5 1AB, with the talk starting at 8:00pm. Doors open at 7:15pm, when there will be advisors offering computer and genealogy help, books for sale, and tea and coffee available.

Non-members are very welcome.

  1. Why just 200 years? The name in Oxfordshire goes back to the 11th century with the French pronounciation and spelling Chesney, and turns up in very recent USA politics. Just don’t go hunting with someone of that name!

    • This is about the archives of a company in Banbury, not about the origins of the name in Oxfordshire. 200 years seems quite a decent track record to me 🙂

  2. I am researching my Cheney family, have gone back to Robert Cheney marriage at Kingsey OTP to Mary Kirby of Towersey. 26th October 1778. I wondered if anyone can help to go back further please?
