Do you suspect that your ancestors lived together unmarried ? Have you discovered that one of your ancestors was illegitimate ? In this talk, Rebecca Probert looks at the social context of illegitimacy and cohabitation in past centuries, based upon years of painstaking primary research, including studies of thousands of couples. Rebecca will explain what the consequences of living together unmarried would have been for those involved. She will also provide new research findings on the nature and extent of illegitimacy and cohabitation in past centuries and decades in order to assist family historians in interpreting their findings.
The meeting will be at the Exeter Hall, Oxford Road, Kidlington, OX5 1AB, at 8:00pm. You are welcome to arrive from 7:15pm to browse the bookstall, have a cup of tea or coffee, or discuss your problems with the help team.
